ABOUT THIS CARVING
Full Inscription: There is no place more delightful than one's own fireside. - Cicero
Origins: Marcus Tullius Cicero’s great thought was taken from his Epistles in the original Latin and translated for us into English. The famous Roman orator’s message says it all about just how nice it is to be at home.
However, an ancient Roman design style for this carving just didn’t seem right to us. Ultimately, we selected a William Morris letterform because of the relevance of the thought to the fireplace inglenook often found in Arts & Crafts homes. Of course, Morris is considered to be the father of the Arts & Crafts movement in England, but we believe his classic style works well with many interior designs.
We feel this style is a perfect for partner for Cicero’s great thought and will work beautifully with any Craftsman, Mission, Prairie or Bungalow style interior — as well as many others.
With its beautifully detailed first letter, this William Morris inspired carving is one of our most complex and personally gratifying designs. We’re confident you’ll enjoy it every time you sit at your fireside!
