ABOUT THIS CARVING

Full Inscription: Give peace, O Lord, in our time.

Origins: Translated from Latin to English from a beautiful 17th century Latin chant for peace (Da pacem Domine) which is still performed by choirs to this day.

We used an Old English stone engraving lettering style paired with the centuries old and universally-recognized symbol of peace, olive branches.

This same phrase can be found carved in Latin over a main doorway of the dining room at George Vanderbilt's Biltmore mansion, famous as America's largest private home. However, we think our version will look great in any home anywhere.

Source: A 17th century Latin chant for peace and in use much earlier, but the first use and source are unknown.

Recommended Finish: Our lighter toned Classic Oak finish works with many interiors and finishes and helps to create greater contrast to show off the many carving details of this piece to best advantage as well as helping to improve readability at greater distance.
