ABOUT THIS CARVING
Full Inscription: Home Is Where The Heart Is
Origins: While there are those who credit this saying to Pliny the Elder, we have been unable to confirm the attribution. However, it is certainly a “great thought” and worthy of our carving effort.
Having hoped for some time to be able to create a carving in the Glasgow School style, this seemed to be the right thought for the purpose. Using lettering created by Scottish designer and architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and recreating a rose motif found adorning the interior of one of his most famous architectural designs, Hill House, we did just that and are quite happy with the result.
Even if we do discover Pliny the Elder really did coin the saying, we won’t be changing this design - and we don’t think he’d mind.
Source: possibly Pliny the Elder, but unconfirmed
Recommended Finish: Our darker toned Heritage Oak finish offers the rich look of a vintage piece and works especially well with designs like this which have larger carved lettering. Also, this finish just "feels right" to us given its Glasgow School heritage.
