ABOUT THIS CARVING
Full Inscription: May you live all the days of your life. - Jonathan Swift
Origins: Perhaps best known today as the author of Gulliver’s Travels, Irishman Jonathan Swift (1667-1745) authored numerous works. Appropriately executed with a beautiful 13th century Irish calligraphic letter style, this carving is based on a line from his book Polite Conversation in which it is used as a toast.
While indeed a fine sentiment for a toast, it is also just a great thought for everyday living. Let’s make sure this timeless piece reaches well beyond Irish pub use and is displayed anywhere it can serve as an important reminder of the value of each and every day.
Source: Polite Conversation, circa 1738
Recommended Finish: We like the Heritage Oak finish for the sense of age it gives the piece and it works well with the larger lettering. However, the lighter toned Classic Oak finish is also nice and does create a greater contrast between the finish and the carved areas for a slightly increased readability at greater distances.
Product Dimensions: 6" X 32" X 3/4"
Includes: Custom installation kit for wall display, installation instructions, Origins Story Card. (Plinth Base not included, but available separately.)
Charitable Category: A portion of the proceeds from this piece benefits Cancer Research programs.
