Origins: Thoreau – Advance Confidently Carving
Full Inscribed Quote: "If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours." - Thoreau
This is the culminating thought from Henry David Thoreau’s Walden, 1854, encapsulating what he learned during his two year, two month, and two day experiment living in the woods on Walden Pond. There is certainly much comfort and encouragement to be found in Thoreau’s important words; and they seem universally relevant to most any of life’s pursuits.
For such a profound statement, it only seemed right to use an Old English lettering style. It was esteemed by the Industrial Revolution era Victorians of Thoreau’s time because it reminded them of the traditional chivalric values of an earlier, simpler medieval age and, like his great thought, conveyed a sense of purity and truth.
