Full Inscription: I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. - Thoreau

Origins: This statement of Thoreau’s is perhaps one of his most famous and it so perfectly encapsulates the reasoning behind his great experiment in living at Walden Pond. Today, our carving can serve as an excellent daily reminder for us all to live life deliberately and to the fullest.

Carved using a simple, circa 1900, American calligraphic letterform we believe Mr. Thoreau would have appreciated — one certainly suitable for any home: cabin, cottage or otherwise.
