Lincoln - Honor the Soldier Carving

GTI-AL010-6-OC

ABOUT THIS CARVING

Full Inscription: Honor to the Soldier, and Sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country's cause. - A. Lincoln

Origins: This heartfelt and memorable sentiment is drawn from Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 letter to George Opdyke, the 76th Mayor of New York City.

Initially, we thought referencing the original thirteen colonies with a traditional thirteen star ornament was appropriate. When reviewing the various Medals of Honor for each of the branches of military service, we happened to note a single common design element among them: thirteen stars on the ribbons of each. Then we knew we were on the right track with our design for this important carving.
