ABOUT THIS CARVING
Full Inscription: I have laid aside business, and gone a-fishing. - Izaak Walton
Origins: Izaak Walton penned his treatise on fly fishing in 1642 and it was first published in 1653. Since then, he has become acclaimed as the “Father of Fly-fishing” and his book has become one of the most reprinted in the history of English literature. We drew inspiration for our carving from the art nouveau stylings on the cover of its 100th reprinting in 1888. We have seen this beautiful ornate leather-bound collector’s edition listed for $40,000 or so - but you can own our timeless carving for substantially less.
You don’t even have to actually fish to appreciate the sentiment. The “fishing” can be anything you choose to do when you’ve “given up business” (temporarily or permanently). A perfect retirement gift or for display in the vacation home.

Recommended Finish: Our lighter toned Classic Oak finish works with many interiors and finishes and helps to create greater contrast to show off the many carving details of this piece to best advantage as well as helping to improve readability at greater distance. However, the Vintage Cherry finish is nice as well, offering a lighter look often found in the more casual interiors often associated with fishing and the outdoors.
