Full carved Inscription: "The woods are lovely, dark and deep." - Robert Frost
American poet Robert Frost called his 1922 poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, his “best bid for remembrance” and was named Poet Laureate of Vermont in the same year. He also received many other awards and recognitions during his life, among them four Pulitzer Prizes.
Here is the complete poem for you:
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
To create this carving, we used lettering created by the renowned English Designer, William Morris. Our “leafy T” is our carved interpretation of an illuminated design from his Kelmscott Chaucer. The organic nature of our leafy T - and the rest of the Morris lettering - works beautifully with this line from his poem.
